The Story Behind the Ecosystems First
Logo

|
The story begins in 1983, we were preparing the charter vessel
M/V Georgina to conduct sonar research in
Glacier Bay Alaska when a humpback whale decided to pay us an unusual visit.
This whale not only sought out our vessel, it circled and performed numerous
acrobatics, seemingly to provide exclusive entertainment. We reluctantly elected to
go
to work even though it seemed ready to perform all day. After moving on,
we were contacted by another member of our team on a vessel a mile away
who got similar treatment. We later heard this whale was known as "Garfunkel"
to the
whale observation team.

Admittedly there could be better pictures of whales,
however this occasion represents a moment in time...a time that appeals to
personal aspiration.

Behind the
wording: "Why we do, What we do"
The
wording: "Why we do, What we do" were chosen to reflect the Ecosystems First Patriot's sense of dedication. Also, a
closer
examination conveys the impression of immersion, to symbolize an altruistic
attitude, and immersion into all the issues.

Our sonar
research survey design was generally conducted independent of whale behavior, so encounters with humpback whales were
incidental, usually distant and uneventful; however, this occasion was the
exception...

well...there have been a
couple of other exceptional occasions to remember too!
